Meet Connie Starr

Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist

I am a certified Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist who has counseled hundreds of people after the devastating loss of a pet, or as they say, their best friend. I practice Dr. Alan Wolfelt's Companioning model and I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tools and techniques.  Coupled with compassionate support, I also provide real, tangible coping strategies to help you move forward in your grieving journey.

I hold a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from City University and am a certified grief counselor through the American Institute of Health Care Professionals. I obtained a Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist certification through The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement.

In 2006 I developed and implemented a Pet Loss Support Group sponsored by the Seattle Animal Shelter which I continue to facilitate. I also volunteer as a Chat Room Host for  PetLoss Partners.

When I'm not helping pet parents navigate their grief journeys, you can most often find me outside on a dogsled behind my team of huskies, traveling the snowy trails of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. They are my family and my heart.

Compassionate Support and Healing Strategies

Meet Amelia
Why Naturopathy

Providing Support For:

Pet Loss

Best Friends

After the loss of a beloved pet, you may be hearing, "You can get another dog," or "It was just a cat." I know these statements aren't true.

Anticipatory Bereavement

If your pet is aging or has received that awful diagnosis of a terminal illness, I can help you navigate this time.

Missing Pets

When a pet goes missing it is common to experience a lack of closure. When coupled with few people who understand and support you, the healing process can be delayed. I can help you move towards a place of peace, forgiveness and resolution.

Accidental Death

Grey Cat

Coping with guilt, blame and anger after a tragic accident is difficult and some emotions can delay the grieving process. I can help you address them in a healthy way.

Behavioral Euthanasia

When a pet is euthanized due to behavioral issues such as aggression, the guilt and feelings of failure can be overwhelming. I will walk with you through these emotions so you can honor the relationship and understand your grief.

Surrendering a Pet

Rehoming a pet is still pet loss and you may not be receiving the support you need.
